Yes, XMEye is completely free to download from both the App Store and Google Play. The app provides full remote viewing, playback, and device management features at no cost. How do I add a camera or DVR to the XMEye app?

You can add devices to XMEye in three ways: 1) Scan the QR code on your DVR/NVR or camera to automatically capture the serial number. 2) Manually enter the device's serial number (UID/Cloud ID) for P2P cloud connection. 3) Enter the device's IP address or DDNS domain for direct LAN/WAN access. The QR code method is the easiest and does not require port forwarding or router configuration.

Can I use XMEye on a PC or Mac computer?

Yes, for desktop monitoring you can use XMEye VMS (Video Management Software), a free Windows application that supports up to 64 devices simultaneously. XMEye VMS is available for download from xmeye.org. You can also access cameras through the web-based cloud portal at xmeye.net or v2.xmeye.net using a web browser. Mac users with Apple M1 or later chips can run the iOS version of XMEye Pro directly.

Why can't I connect to my cameras in XMEye?

Connection issues are usually caused by network problems. Check that your DVR/NVR/camera is powered on and connected to the internet. Verify your router is working and the device has a valid IP address. Ensure P2P/cloud service is enabled in the device's network settings. Restart both the device and your router. If using cellular data, confirm XMEye has mobile data permission. Also check that your login credentials (username and password) are correct — many devices default to username 'admin' with a blank password.

What devices are compatible with XMEye?

XMEye works with DVRs, NVRs, and IP cameras that use the Xiongmai/XMEye cloud platform. Since Xiongmai is a major OEM supplier, many branded CCTV kits from various retailers use XMEye-compatible hardware internally, even if the brand name is different. If your device shows an XMEye QR code in its menu or came with instructions to download XMEye, it is compatible. The app supports devices with various resolutions from 1080p to 5MP and 8MP.

How do I view playback recordings on XMEye?

To view recorded footage: Open the XMEye app and select your device. Tap the Playback button. Choose the date you want to review. The timeline will show recorded segments — 'R' marks indicate regular (continuous) recordings and 'M' marks indicate motion-detection clips. Tap on the timeline to start playback from that point. You can also save clips or screenshots to your phone during playback.

Is XMEye secure to use?

XMEye uses P2P cloud technology for remote access, which eliminates the need for port forwarding. However, independent security researchers have noted that many Xiongmai devices ship with default credentials (username 'admin' with blank password) and do not enforce password changes during setup. For better security: always change the default password to a strong one, keep your device firmware updated, and consider limiting remote access when not needed. Using a dedicated network segment for cameras is also recommended.

What is the difference between XMEye and XMEye Pro?

XMEye and XMEye Pro are both developed by the same company (Xiongmai/JAIFY) and provide similar core functionality for remote camera viewing and management. Set up was a bit tricky but once I got it configured, everything works well. I can view all 8 cameras on my phone from anywhere. The QR code scan feature made adding the DVR much easier than typing in the serial number manually. Picture quality on live view is decent and playback works reliably. Happy I got it all working.

I've been using XMEye Pro for my home security system with 4 cameras. The P2P connection is convenient — no port forwarding needed. Live view works smoothly on Wi-Fi and reasonably well on 4G. The motion detection alerts help me know when someone is at the door. The app could use a UI refresh but functionally it does the job.

The cameras work great, most of the time. We have one camera that seems to glitch out often. Not bad out of six. However, the app is super slow to load up. If I just minimize the app, but did not fully close it out, when I open it again, it will show me the view from the previous time. I have to completely close out and restart the app to get the current view.

App would be a lot better if it didn't have a timer on watching my cameras. I don't need to be reminded how long I've been watching. The settings features in the system could be a little more user friendly too. Not everyone is an IT expert. Overall though the basic stuff is pretty easy to use and navigate. Linking the system to the app could be a little more user friendly too.
