What garage door openers are compatible with the myQ app?

myQ works with most major garage door opener brands manufactured after 1993, including Chamberlain, LiftMaster, Craftsman, Genie (with Intellicode technology, post-1996), and others. You need either a Wi-Fi-enabled opener with built-in myQ connectivity, or you can add the myQ Smart Garage Control hub to retrofit virtually any existing opener. Is the myQ app free to use?

Yes, the myQ app is free to download and use for basic garage door control, including remote open/close, real-time notifications, scheduling, and guest access sharing. Premium features like the myQ Smart Garage Camera require a separate hardware purchase, and optional video storage plans are available for extended clip retention (up to 30 days). The myQ Community app for residential building access is $4/month.

Does myQ require a subscription?

No subscription is required for core garage door control features. The app is free for remote open/close, notifications, scheduling, and activity history. Subscriptions are only needed for optional premium features like extended cloud video storage with the myQ Smart Garage Camera. Basic live viewing from the camera is also free.

What Wi-Fi requirements does myQ have?

myQ devices connect to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks. They do not support 5 GHz bands. Your router must allow outbound connections on ports 8883 (TCP/UDP) and 53 (TCP/UDP). The myQ Smart Garage Control hub also uses Bluetooth for initial pairing. Ensure you have a strong Wi-Fi signal in your garage for reliable connectivity.

Can multiple people control the same garage door with myQ?

Yes. myQ supports guest access sharing, allowing the primary account holder to invite family members, friends, or service providers to control the garage door. Each guest gets their own myQ account and can open/close the door from their phone. The owner can set customizable permissions and revoke access at any time.

Does myQ work with smart home assistants?

Yes, myQ integrates with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and IFTTT for voice control and home automation routines. You can use voice commands to check your garage door status or close it. Note that for security reasons, opening the garage door via voice typically requires additional confirmation steps.

What is myQ Connected Garage?

myQ Connected Garage allows you to use your vehicle's built-in infotainment system to control your garage door, without any additional hardware. It's currently available in select Tesla, Honda, Acura, Volkswagen, Mercedes, Mitsubishi, and Kia vehicles (2024-2026 model years). The feature works through your car's touchscreen and provides the same open/close/monitor functionality as the mobile app.

How do I set up myQ if my garage door opener doesn't have Wi-Fi?

If your garage door opener doesn't have built-in Wi-Fi, you can use the myQ Smart Garage Control hub (sold separately) to add smart connectivity. The hub connects to your existing opener and your home Wi-Fi network, enabling full app control. Installation is straightforward: mount the hub, connect it to your opener, and follow the in-app setup wizard. The hub works with most openers made after 1993.
