Introduction
The Roku Smart Home app is the official mobile companion for Roku-branded smart home devices, developed by Roku, Inc. — a leading streaming and smart home technology company. With over 1 million downloads on Google Play and a 4.7-star rating (150K+ ratings) on the App Store, Roku Smart Home has rapidly established itself as a popular all-in-one smart home management platform.
Designed as a centralized hub, the app enables users to discover, set up, control, and monitor a growing ecosystem of Roku smart home products from a single interface — including security cameras, video doorbells, smart LED bulbs, light strips, and smart plugs. Whether you're checking a live camera feed from your front door, adjusting smart lighting scenes, or scheduling smart plugs to automate your holiday lights, the Roku Smart Home app puts complete home control in your pocket.
Why Choose Roku Smart Home?
Roku Smart Home stands out in the crowded smart home market through its seamless integration with Roku TVs and streaming devices. Unlike competing platforms, Roku lets you view camera feeds directly on your TV with features like Camera Carousel (automatically cycling through all connected cameras) and Picture-in-Picture (monitoring a camera while watching content). This TV-first approach is unique to Roku and creates a genuinely integrated smart home experience.
The app itself is free to download and use, with core device control and live streaming included at no cost. For enhanced security features, Roku offers an optional Smart Home Subscription that unlocks cloud recording (up to 14 days of motion-triggered clips), AI-powered smart detection (identifying people, pets, packages, and vehicles), and refined event filtering to reduce unwanted notifications.

What devices work with the Roku Smart Home app?
The Roku Smart Home app works exclusively with Roku-branded smart home devices, including indoor cameras, outdoor cameras, battery cameras, floodlight cameras, video doorbells (wired and wireless), smart LED bulbs, smart light strips, smart light strips SE, indoor smart plugs, and outdoor smart plugs. It does not support third-party or non-Roku smart home devices.
Can I view camera feeds on my Roku TV?
Yes, this is one of Roku Smart Home's unique features. You can view camera feeds directly on your Roku TV or streaming device using the Roku Cameras app. Features include Camera Carousel (automatically cycling through all camera feeds), Picture-in-Picture (monitoring a camera while watching content), and TV-based motion notifications for people, pets, packages, and vehicles.
What does the Roku Smart Home subscription include?
The Roku Smart Home Subscription unlocks cloud recording with up to 14 days of motion-triggered video clip storage, AI-powered smart detection that classifies events into people, pets, packages, vehicles, and ambient sounds, event filtering for refined notifications, and no delay between motion events (free users have a 5-minute cooldown between events).
How do I set up Roku Smart Home devices?
Setting up Roku Smart Home devices is straightforward: (1) Download the Roku Smart Home app and create a Roku account, (2) Tap the '+' button to add a new device, (3) Follow the guided Wi-Fi setup wizard which walks you through connecting the device to your network, naming it, and assigning it to a room. Most devices can be set up in under 5 minutes.
Does Roku Smart Home work with Alexa or Google Home?
Roku Smart Home devices primarily integrate with the Roku ecosystem, including Roku TVs and streaming devices. For voice assistant compatibility, check the specific device model's documentation on the Roku website, as support may vary by product.
Can I share access with family members?
Currently, the Roku Smart Home app requires sharing account credentials for multi-user access. A dedicated household sharing or multi-user feature has been a frequent user request. Check the app's latest version for updates on this feature, as Roku regularly adds new functionality.
What is Roku camera error code 45?
Error code 45 is a common connectivity issue that typically occurs during camera setup. It usually indicates a Wi-Fi connection problem. To resolve it: (1) Ensure your camera is within Wi-Fi range, (2) Restart your router, (3) Make sure you're connecting to a 2.4 GHz network (some Roku cameras don't support 5 GHz), (4) Reset the camera and try setup again through the app.
Are Roku cameras weatherproof for outdoor use?
Yes, Roku outdoor cameras and outdoor camera models are designed for outdoor installation and are weather-resistant. They can withstand rain, snow, and various temperature conditions. Indoor cameras are not weather-rated and should only be used indoors. Always check the specific IP rating for your camera model.
How much cloud storage does Roku Smart Home offer?
With a Roku Smart Home Subscription, you get cloud storage for motion-triggered video clips with up to 14 days of retention. Without a subscription, you can still view live camera feeds and receive motion alerts, but video clips are not stored in the cloud. The subscription covers all cameras linked to your account.

Love how everything connects to my Roku TV. I can see my doorbell camera right on the TV screen while watching a movie — the Picture-in-Picture feature is genius. Setup was painless and the motion alerts are reliable.
App Store
Solid security camera app with good live streaming quality. The smart detection subscription is worth it — much fewer false alerts from passing cars and trees now. Would love to see multi-user sharing added in a future update.
App Store
Finally a smart home app that actually works well. I have cameras, a doorbell, smart plugs, and light strips all managed from one place. The scheduling features for lights and plugs are exactly what I needed for my daily routines.
App Store
The app works well for basic monitoring but I wish they would add household sharing so my spouse can also access the cameras without sharing my password. It's a basic security feature that's missing from an otherwise good app.
Google Play
Switched from Ring to Roku Smart Home and I'm very impressed. The TV integration is something no other brand offers — being able to see my cameras on my Roku TV in Picture-in-Picture mode while watching shows is incredible.
Google Play
Easy to set up and use daily. Camera quality is great during the day and decent at night. The app is clean and responsive. Motion alerts come through quickly. Only wish the subscription was a bit cheaper.
Google Play
I started with just the cameras but ended up getting smart plugs and light strips too. Being able to control everything from one app is really convenient. The light color customization is fun and the scheduling works perfectly.
Google Play
Good value for a home security system. The free live streaming without subscription is a big plus compared to other brands. Cloud recording subscription is reasonably priced and the 14-day retention is adequate for most needs.
Google Play
As someone who's never set up security cameras before, I found this incredibly easy. The guided setup wizard walks you through everything step by step. Had three cameras running within 20 minutes. Highly recommend for beginners.
