Most home security camera apps do one thing and do it adequately. HiBirds by xinvo does something more interesting: it handles the full range of IP camera management while also supporting a growing category of AI-powered smart bird feeder cameras that most generic apps completely ignore.
Whether you're mounting a security camera over your front door, setting up a wildlife camera in the backyard, or pairing a smart bird feeder camera to watch nature up close, HiBirds covers all three use cases in a single, unified app.
With a 3.8-star rating on the App Store across 40 ratings and support for 15 languages, HiBirds is available for free on iOS (iOS 13.0+) and Android (Android 7.0+).
What Is HiBirds?
HiBirds is a free mobile application developed by xinvo that serves as a network camera management terminal. Its primary function is to connect, configure, and monitor IP cameras — supporting real-time live streaming, video playback, cloud storage, two-way audio intercom, and AI-powered humanoid detection alerts.
What sets HiBirds apart from standard camera management apps is its integration with smart bird feeder cameras. The app pairs with specialized bird feeder camera hardware from brands including Gigalumi, Camojojo, and Hibird Pro, adding AI bird species identification for over 11,000 species to its standard camera toolkit.
The result is an app that bridges home security monitoring and backyard wildlife observation — two use cases that are increasingly overlapping as outdoor smart cameras become more capable and affordable.
How HiBirds Works
Getting started with HiBirds requires three steps:
- Download the HiBirds app from the App Store or Google Play
- Create an account using your email address
- Add a device — scan the QR code on your compatible IP camera or bird feeder camera, enter your Wi-Fi password, and the device appears on your HiBirds dashboard
For smart bird feeder cameras, the setup process is the same, with the addition of an optional AI identification enrollment step where the camera learns to distinguish the bird species that commonly visit your specific feeder location. From that point, the app monitors your feeder automatically — capturing images and video of each bird visit, running AI identification in real time, and pushing notifications to your phone.
Live Video Streaming and Playback
HiBirds delivers stable real-time video streaming from connected cameras over Wi-Fi or cellular data. The app supports multiple simultaneous camera feeds, switchable from a single dashboard without navigating between screens.
For cameras that support local SD card recording, HiBirds includes a timeline-based video playback interface that lets you scrub backward through recorded footage to review events you missed. Cloud storage users can access event-triggered clips stored remotely, providing off-site backup that protects footage even if a camera is physically damaged or stolen.
AI Humanoid Detection
On supported IP cameras, HiBirds uses AI-powered humanoid detection to distinguish human movement from other motion sources — animals, tree branches, shadows, or passing vehicles. This dramatically reduces false-positive alert volume compared to simple pixel-change motion detection.
When a human figure is detected within the camera's field of view, HiBirds sends an immediate push notification with a thumbnail of the detected event. You can review the full clip directly from the notification without opening the main app. Detection sensitivity is adjustable from the camera settings panel.
Smart Bird Feeder Camera Integration
HiBirds is one of the few IP camera apps that explicitly supports smart bird feeder cameras — a fast-growing category of outdoor wildlife cameras designed to be mounted at bird feeders and equipped with specialized AI for species identification.
Compatible smart feeder cameras connect to HiBirds exactly like standard security cameras, but unlock additional features including:
- AI Bird Species Identification — recognizes over 11,000 bird species using on-device and cloud AI
- Species-Specific Notifications — custom alerts that fire only for specific target species, not every motion event
- Automatic Species Albums — each identified species gets its own photo and video album that builds automatically over time
- Slow-Motion Capture — 120fps slow-motion recording available on compatible hardware reveals wing mechanics and behavior invisible at normal speed
- Squirrel Detection and Deterrence — AI differentiates squirrels from birds and can trigger an audio deterrent through the camera's speaker
This birdwatching capability layer is entirely optional — users with standard security cameras see only standard camera management features.
Two-Way Audio
HiBirds supports two-way audio on cameras equipped with a built-in speaker and microphone. The hold-to-talk interface works similarly to a walkie-talkie: press and hold to transmit, release to listen. Audio quality uses noise reduction processing to reduce background interference, maintaining clarity in outdoor environments.
Two-way audio is particularly useful for video doorbell use cases and for smart bird feeder cameras where the speaker can be used to play bird calls or deter squirrels without approaching the feeder.
Cloud Storage and Local Playback
HiBirds supports two recording storage paths:
Cloud storage — Motion-triggered and event-based clips are uploaded to secure cloud servers and accessible through the app's event history tab. Cloud storage is available as an optional subscription for users who want off-site backup.
Local SD card — Cameras with microSD card slots record continuously or on-trigger locally. HiBirds provides in-app playback access to SD card footage via the camera's P2P connection, without requiring the card to be physically removed.
