Introduction
Managing a smart home shouldn't mean juggling multiple apps or relying on a single ecosystem. Aqara Home is the official companion app for all Aqara smart home devices, providing a unified control center that bridges Apple HomeKit, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and Home Assistant — all from one interface.
Developed by Lumi United Technology (established 2009, Aqara brand launched 2016), the Aqara Home app has grown into one of the most comprehensive smart home platforms available, supporting Zigbee 3.0, Matter, Thread, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Infrared protocols across hundreds of devices.
What Is Aqara Home?
Aqara Home is a free smart home automation and control app available on iOS, Android, and Apple Watch. It serves as the central hub for managing Aqara smart locks, security cameras, motion sensors, door/window sensors, temperature/humidity sensors, smart switches, curtain motors, smart plugs, and more.
The app connects to Aqara hubs (Hub M3, M2, M1S, E1, Camera Hub G3, G5 Pro) which act as Zigbee/Matter bridges, enabling local and remote device control, automation, and cross-platform integration.

Aqara Home is the free official companion app for all Aqara smart home devices. Available on iOS, Android, and Apple Watch, it provides centralized control for smart locks, cameras, sensors, switches, curtain motors, and smart plugs. The app connects to Aqara hubs (M3, M2, M1S, E1, Camera Hub G3/G5 Pro) and supports Zigbee 3.0, Matter, Thread, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Infrared protocols.
Is Aqara compatible with Apple HomeKit?
Yes, Aqara has the deepest Apple HomeKit integration of any smart home brand. Aqara devices support HomeKit Secure Video, Apple Home Key for smart locks, Adaptive Temperature, Siri voice control, and Apple Watch management. Most Aqara accessories can be added to the Apple Home app for unified control alongside other HomeKit devices.
Does Aqara work with Alexa, Google Home, and SmartThings?
Yes. Through the Matter open standard and dedicated integrations, Aqara devices work with Amazon Alexa, Google Home/Assistant, and Samsung SmartThings. The Multi-Admin feature allows you to add the same Aqara hub to multiple platforms simultaneously without removing and re-pairing.
Does Aqara support the Matter standard?
Yes. Aqara is a strong supporter of Matter. The Hub M3 supports Advanced Matter Bridging, which exposes Aqara-specific features (gesture recognition, camera auto-cruise) to third-party Matter platforms. The Hub M3 also supports third-party Matter devices from any brand, making it a versatile Matter bridge.
Can Aqara devices work without internet?
Yes. With supported hubs like the Hub M3, Aqara Home supports Local App Control via LAN. This means you can control devices through your home network without internet access. Automations also run locally on the hub, ensuring reliability even during internet outages.
What devices does Aqara Home support?
Aqara Home supports a wide range of device categories: smart locks (fingerprint, NFC, Home Key), security cameras, video doorbells, motion sensors, door/window sensors, temperature/humidity sensors, mmWave presence sensors (FP2, FP300), smart switches, dimmers, curtain motors, smart plugs with power monitoring, vibration sensors, water leak detectors, air quality sensors, and various hubs.
How do I set up the Aqara Home app?
Download Aqara Home from the App Store or Google Play, create a free account, then add your Aqara hub by following the in-app setup wizard. Once the hub is connected to your Wi-Fi, you can add Aqara Zigbee devices by putting them in pairing mode. The app will automatically discover and configure compatible devices.
Is Aqara privacy-friendly?
Yes. Aqara emphasizes privacy with end-to-end encrypted camera streams and recordings, local automation processing that keeps data within your home network, WPA3 Wi-Fi security support on hubs, and optional local NAS storage instead of cloud. Aqara was featured in How-To Geek's list of 'Privacy-Respecting Smart Home Brands'.
How to connect Aqara to Home Assistant?
Aqara has an official partnership with Home Assistant. You can integrate Aqara devices via Zigbee2MQTT using the Hub M3, or through Matter. Compatible devices include the Hub M3, Lock U200, Motion Sensor P2, and many more. This allows advanced automations combining Aqara devices with other smart home brands in Home Assistant.
What is Aqara Automation 2.0?
Automation 2.0 is Aqara's advanced automation system released in September 2025. It introduces a three-layer WHEN-IF-THEN logic: WHEN (trigger event like sunrise), IF (state condition like weather is sunny), THEN (action like open curtains). It also adds batch device selection, sequential triggering (multiple button press patterns), and state-based conditions for smarter context-aware automations.

I bought my first smart home devices about 2 years ago, not expecting much. So I gave Aqara a shot, buying a few switches and sensors. I just couldn't believe how well everything worked. I have 55 Aqara accessories in my house. The app ties all of this together so well and allows for so much control & functionality. Aqara support is extremely responsive & they fix issues quickly. I highly recommend their products to anyone!
Pricing InfoFree to download and use. Optional cloud services available through in-app purchases. All core device control, automation, and scene features are free.
The G5 Pro outdoor cameras (PoE, not WiFi) have exceeded expectations! Love them. And the live video integration with the Home app has been excellent. The U100 door lock works great too. Lights, Thermostat, sensors — the Aqara products have been working great. Only issue is the G410 doorbell sync with Apple Home isn't always consistent.
App Store
Despite some UI complaints — controls becoming tiny after an update, missing 24-hour time format, and no dark mode — I still give it four stars. Overall the app does its job pretty well. I wish they'd add webhooks to the automation actions, but the core smart home functionality is solid.
App Store
This app has worked great with my new G3 camera. The interface is very easy to use, and has plenty of features. Setting the camera up with HomeKit Secure Video worked flawlessly. One of my favorite features is the IR control for mini-splits and other appliances. My suggestion is to add Celsius to Fahrenheit conversion for the IR temperature control.
App Store
App is generally fine to work with. I'm able to navigate through it without much issue, and have several temperature sensors running in various locations. Overall I don't have many issues with the app except for the 24 hour time format. I'd update the review to 5 stars if they deployed a 12-hour time format option.
Google Play
I use this for temperature/humidity sensors. They work great, but it's very difficult to see trends over time. The graphs auto-adjust scale is too jumpy. The full scale is too extreme. There needs to be a third option to set the scale so you can see data trends without the graph jumping around.
Google Play
I don't like having to create a cloud account to access a local device. Hopefully I can work around that and use the G410 doorbell camera fully locally. IMHO, cloud services should always be an optional add-on that enhances the device's capabilities, but should only be required in extremely limited cases.
Google Play
The hub is pretty limited and expensive, and because it depends on the cloud, is pretty much always offline at times. I mostly use the IR commands, but can't map them to a main screen widget so have to fumble through sub menus. The hub also has a speaker but it can't be used as a routine target.

WHEN-IF-THEN
WHEN — A trigger event occurs (sunrise, door opens, motion detected)
IF — A state condition is met (weather is sunny, room is dark)

Additional Automation 2.0 features include batch device selection for faster setup, sequential triggering (e.g., single → double → single press for different actions), and state-based conditions that make automations context-aware.
With supported hubs like the Hub M3, Aqara Home can control devices locally over LAN — improving responsiveness and reliability even without internet. This is a key advantage for privacy-conscious users.
